WHYNOT, Melvin Owen

2018-07-29

Born July 22, 1929, passed away July 29, 2018, at South Shore Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Aubrey Whynot and Ethel (Mailman) Mader. Mellie lived his whole life in Lower Branch and worked for the Nova Scotia Power Commission for 39 years, which he retired from in 1986. He enjoyed his many stray cats for years, and while living at Ridgewood for the past 21 months, he never missed a day that he didn't ask about his cat family. Mellie had a very sharp mind, and he asked Dr. Thibeau questions right up to his passing. Mellie was predeceased by two sisters, Mona and Alice, stepfather Harris Mader, and half-brother Merill. He is survived by two half-brothers, Brenton (Betty), Gary (Shirley), all of Lower Branch, and several nephews and nieces. Mellie was buried at Midville Cemetery on August 3 at 7 p.m. Arthur Young officiated at the private graveside service. Family flowers only, with donations going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation; N.S. Lung Association; South Shore Regional Hospital; St. James Lutheran Church, or charity of your choice.
