HARRISON, John R.

2023-06-25

Former Blandford, NS, resident, John Harrison, at the age of 83, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer disease.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Diane (Milton); his children: daughter, Kelly (Cameron); son, Terry; granddaughter, Kristina; several great-grandchildren; brother, Mitchell (Diana); numerous friends and family members.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Mildred "Bunny" (Carter) Harrison; brother, F/O Paul Harrison; sister, Caralee Collins.

John taught school for several years in Nova Scotia before taking his young family on the journey of their lives to Aklavik, NT, then on to Pine Point, NT, where the family remained until the children graduated from high school. From there, John retired from teaching and used his many talents and skills working at a variety of jobs in the Blandford, NS area, as well as making sure his lawn and gardens were pristine (not a dandelion in sight). John loved the outdoors and spent many hours at his tiny maple sugar shack perfecting the maple syrup that found a spot on tables across the country. John was a prolific reader who scoured second-hand bookstores in hopes of completing his list of 'yet to read'. Other interests included travelling, fishing, golf, and social gatherings, especially during the Christmas season when the entire family were together.

A celebration of life for John will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Harrison Cottage (230 Cottage Rd.) in Diligent River. Memorial donations in John's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of South Cumberland Community Care Centre in Parrsboro for their care of John during his stay there.
