SUTHERLAND, Brian “Scott”

2023-08-09

It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Brian “Scott” Sutherland, age 55, of Dartmouth, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at home.

Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Brian and Patricia (Warden) Sutherland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving and devoted partner of 17 years, Robert “Bobby” Barkhouse in March 2022.

Scott is survived by his brother, Jason (Kelly) Sutherland, Centreville; his chosen sister and best friend for many years, Kathy “KP” Purcell and her partner Shawna Young. Scott shared a special relationship with Bobby’s sister, Patti and family members. Scott is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Scott had a magnetic personality and drew people in with his kind and outgoing nature. He was always a ray of light for his family and friends. Scott was a social person who enjoyed many gatherings with friends and family. He was a beautiful singer and had a real love for music. Scott also had a real admiration for collecting antiques and paintings. Upon graduating from Horton High School, Scott attended Acadia University where he graduated with a degree in Psychology. Scott began his successful career in advertising and worked for Kentville publishing for a number of years. The success in his career in advertising and sales was due to his dedication, hard work, sense of humor and charismatic personality. Scott’s most recent employment was with Hudson’s Bay Company as a sales representative. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be a private graveside service for both Scott and Bobby in Mahone Bay, at a later date.

Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
