CORKUM, Gwendolyn

2023-08-02

The family of Gwen Corkum advise her passing at the age of 93 after a short illness. Mom lived independently in her own home up until her passing.

She was born in Feltzen South and spent her first 75 years there, just moving up the road when she married Capt. Sam Corkum in 1949. She then moved to LaHave Heights in Bridgewater so that she was “closer to the hospital” and “it’s easier to buy milk there.” Her words.

In her earlier years she taught school in Upper Kingsburg, Feltzen South and substituted at Centre Consolidated school for a time.

Mom was a bit of a road warrior, travelling to her husband Sam’s various ports of call in the Maritime provinces. When she sold her car recently, we found five speeding tickets she had received occurring over the years; all warnings plus another one she had fought in court and won.

Gwen was the daughter of the late Moyle and Dorothy Corkum. She is predeceased by her husband, Capt. Samuel Corkum, her daughter, Jocelyn and her brother, Bertram.

Gwen is survived by her son, Michael (Connie); grandchildren, Daniel (Laura), Graham and Elisa (Morten); great-grandchildren, Emma, Adam, Olivia, Ayden, Kate and Noah; sisters-in-law, Virginia Corkum, East LaHave; Eva (Fred) Dares, Bayport; Betty Hubley, Bayport; Hilda Corkum, Niagara Falls.

At Mom’s request there will be no church service and an interment service will be held at a later date at the Feltzen South Cemetery.

Memoriams may be made to the Feltzen South Cemetery, Bridgewater United Church or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to Thank Flossie Tanner for all she did for Gwen over the recent years.

Mom was an avid CB’er back in the day and so, “The Worry Bird” signs off.
