NODDING, Douglas David

2024-02-19

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas David Nodding, 86, of Lunenburg, announce his passing on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg with his son and daughter by his side.

Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Gordon and Gladys (Whynott) Nodding.

Douglas had an infectious love of life and could often be found playing pool or cribbage at the Bridgewater legion with his many friends. He was a proud Lunenburg native who enjoyed socializing and never missed an opportunity to make you laugh or smile. Douglas worked at National Sea and was a retired member of the Lunenburg Fire Department and was one of the fire fighters when National Sea caught on fire. Douglas was Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #23, Lunenburg, and a member of the Bridgewater Legion Br. #24. If one of his extended family members needed help, they would always say call Uncle Dougie and he would go no questions asked.

Survived by daughter, Wendy (Tommy) Mills, Lunenburg; Wade (Shelley), Chester Grant; grandsons, Evan (Tatyana), Andrew (Carol Lee), both of Halifax; great-grandchildren, Cynthia Virginia, and James Douglas; his sister Judy; his brothers, Gordon Jr. (Irene), Freddie (Lynette), Ray (Carlene) Wayne (Carol) Grant (Barbara) and Marven (Bevie).

Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his parents; wife Virginia; brother Keith; and sister Joy.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg, and from where a memorial service was held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. Rev. Willis Ott officiated. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robertson, and Dr. Newton who we are so grateful to for keeping us up to date and late-night phone calls. Also, the staff of the second floor of FMH and the staff on the third floor, Dr. Art Patterson Ward. Also, the staff of the Vet’s wing for all the entertainment and the bus ride Dad got to take. You don’t know how much that meant to him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Bridgewater Legion, Branch #24, Poppy Fund or the South Shore Hospice would be appreciated by the family. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
