KNICKLE, Gloria

2023-08-16

It is with heavy hearts the family of Gloria Elaine Knickle 82, of Lunenburg, announces her passing at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital on August 16, 2023.

Born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth “Betty” (Mac Pherson) MacVicar.

Gloria started her working career in the fish plant in Louisbourg. Then, upon moving to Lunenburg, began working for National Sea. However, for the majority of her working career she was employed at Harbour View Haven for special care where she met so many of her wonderful lifelong friends.

Gloria loved to listen to her country music especially on Saturday evening when the old classics were played. Mom also loved playing cards of any kind. She especially looked forward to playing crib even if she was losing. Gloria also loved to cook for people with no concerns about how many. When she would go to Louisbourg and people found out that Gloria was “home” they would come to Joyce and Fabian’s for either codfish and potatoes or her famous Seafood Chowder. Believe us, it wouldn’t take long for the kitchen to fill up.

She lived in Lunenburg but travelled frequently to her place of birth, Louisbourg up until her health would not allow. She would go down in August to help the Crab Festival volunteers, working hard, along with family and friends in the place that she loved dearly. These were her happiest moments.

Gloria is survived by daughter, Cheryle Knickle, Florida; sons, Dwayne Knickle, Dayspring; Terry (Natasha) Knickle, Hebbville; sister, Annie Tanner, Shoreham Village, Chester; grandchildren, Jason Ernst (Tracey), Dartmouth; Shannon Cavitt (Chad), Kentucky; Jessie Creaser (Corey) Wileville; Riley Knickle (Betsy), Bridgewater; Brody Knickle, Hebbville; Loganne Digma, Florida; and Brooke Burch, Newmarket, ON; great-grandchildren, Rylyn, Beckett, Lexie, Desi, Odin and Ella.

Our thanks and gratitude to the staff of South Shore Regional Hospital, Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care. A special thanks to Gloria’s friends who spent time with her at home or checking in with her on the phone. We especially thank Dr. John Jenkins for Gloria’s amazing care, house calls and being so available when he was needed.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gloria was held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. Interment will be at a later date in Louisbourg Cape Breton, NS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
