TANNER, Larry Arnold

2017-12-08

As the stars were shining above the Lunenburg Harbour on the morning of December 8, 2017, Larry Arnold Tanner (59) passed peacefully with the comfort of his family surrounding him. Born in Lunenburg and raised in Blue Rocks, Larry was the son of the late Sterling and Alma (Hanhams) Tanner. In his early years, Larry served as a dedicated fireman, teammate and hardworking employee at National Sea Products and Deep Sea Trawler. Later in life, he found joy in spending his free time coaching soccer and hockey. Larry's laugh and presence never failed to fill the room with warmth. The scent of his famous cinnamon rolls filled the halls of many schools where he worked and brightened the days of those around him. The best parts of Larry's life were spent in the woods, on the water, and with his family. Larry was a loving husband to his wife, Brenda (Chisholm) of 34 years. Together they built their life in Lunenburg and raised two boys of their own. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and a friend to many in his community. Larry is survived by his wife Brenda; sons, Alex (Emily), Lunenburg and Patrick (Sarah Henri), Cherry Hill; granddaughter, Ella; brothers, Scott (Becky), Lunenburg, Lloyd (Susan), Garden Lots, Carter (Dale), Bridgewater; as well as a loving mother in law, many brothers and sisters in law, and lots of nieces and nephews who were all very special to Larry. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr Martell, Dr Gowan, Kerry South, the nurses and staff at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, VON, and Sweeny Funeral Home. A gathering to celebrate Larry's life was held on Monday, December 11, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Bluenose Academy or Fishermen's Memorial Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
