VEINOT, Allan Vaughn

Maplewood, born May 25, 1950, in The Forties, passed away peacefully Friday, July 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Allan is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Sarty) of Parkdale, whom he met as a teenager under debatable circumstances. Were they at a dance, or is it possible they met while ice skating and he helped her lace up her skates? Either way, the fact remains that a period of courtship ensued, weather and road conditions permitting, and they married on August 4th, 1972, and had 50 fabulous, fun-filled years together. He is also survived by his two loving and devoted daughters, Stacey (Chris) Gowdey of Windsor, ON, and Diane (Craig Garrison) Veinot of New Germany, and three beloved grandsons, Cody, Colin, and Edward.

Allan himself was a part of a large, closely knit brood, those bonds being cemented over many years of card games, fishing trips, cabin adventures, hunting shenanigans and of course very frequent family dinners, parties and other special occasions. At a great number of these gatherings, he was the gracious host, a role he absolutely cherished, as can be attested by any in attendance.

He is survived by his brothers, Neil (Karen) Veinot of Kentville, and Larry (Julie) Veinot of Lower Sackville; sisters, Donna Elliot of New Minas, and Susan (Dorin) Veinott of New Ross.

He was predeceased by father, Paul; mother, Shirley; brother, Laird and sister, Linda (Dwight) Sanders of New Ross.

Frequent late night card games and carrying on with nephew Terry and his son Robert, neighbours Rex and Bonnie, brother in-law Karl and wife Ann, and sister Susan and Dorin, were some of his most recent favourite times. He was devoted to his home and his family, involved in many community events and was so very proud of all the work he did on his tree lot, always eager to show everyone around the grounds on the 4-wheelers. On your guided tour, you could expect to see special places of interest including The Landing, The Deer Blind, The Brook, The Bridge, and the Fire Pond. Oh, how he loved being in his woods, every chance he got! Tree weekend was his yearly tradition and always involved great dinners and camaraderie among all participants.

He had many cherished nieces and nephews, Terry, Sherry, Paul, Nick, Mike, Jonathan, Amy, Kari, Kyle, Julia, Michael, Melissa, and Craig, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Children and animals were putty in his hands, which were never far from whatever snack or treat he had to serve up. He was often seen chatting away to the wild birds, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits who he fed faithfully just outside his patio door. He loved his quiet country life.

He was the manager of the Shur-Gain in Bridgewater for 35 years, where he was a staff and customer favourite, often called upon to make deliveries to customers who were on his travel route, and also to many who weren’t. He greeted them all by name and with a friendly smile, and the little wave from his steering wheel was seen by all who crossed his path on the road. He loved people, animals, and community service and it showed in every aspect of his life.

Service of Remembrance was held 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale-Maplewood, Parkdale. Rev. Sam Jess officiating. Interment will be in Parkdale-Maplewood Cemetery, Parkdale. Donations may be made to Parkdale-Maplewood Cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society, Parkdale-Maplewood Community Hall or charity of choice.
