MURRAY, John “Ian” Train Mitchell

Age 74, passed away peacefully Monday, August 13, 2018 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on February 12, 1944 in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, he was a son of the late Tom and Isabelle Murray. Ian immigrated to Canada with his wife Irene in 1965, where they began their life adventures, from Montreal to Nova Scotia. Ian worked as a scale technician for 60 years. He was very knowledgeable in his field and often flown into remote areas by helicopter to help companies tackle their toughest scale problems. Ian loved the sport of soccer and loved to referee during the warm months being kept busy with hockey during the colder ones. In his retirement years, Ian loved spending time with his grandchildren, but most of all he loved going on cruises with his wife and friends. Ian loved to keep busy splitting wood in the fall, always available to lend a helping hand whether it be helping with a neighbour’s lawnmower or a friends taxes. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Irene (Mitchell); daughter, Tracy; son; Glen (Katie); five grandchildren, Connor, Victoria, Hunter, Parker and Payton, which he adored. Ian will be dearly missed by family and friends. Besides his parents, Ian was predeceased by his sister, Doris MacIntosh of Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater where a celebration of Ian’s life will be held 2-4 p.m., Friday, August 17th. Family flowers only please.
