RITCEY, Delma Henry

2023-08-07

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delma Henry Ritcey, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, on Monday, August 7, 2023, with his family by his side. Delma has lived with COPD for over a decade, and sadly complications due to COVID-19 took his life very suddenly. He is now at peace and no longer in discomfort.

Delma is survived by his devoted and loving wife Janet (Eisnor) of 66 years, Son Terry (Francis) Bridgewater, NS; daughter Tina, Bridgewater, NS; brother Edwin (Vivian), Edmonton, AB; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Henry and Doris, and brothers Leslie, Stuart, Harold, Henry Jr., Maxwell, and Daniel.

Delma, the eldest of eight sons, was born on April 18, 1932, to Henry and Doris (Corkum) Ritcey in East LaHave.

Delma was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and great sense of humour. He was a real prankster and loved to joke with people. He had an entrepreneurial spirit which enabled him to work in several fields during his working life. From grocery store management to insurance and car sales, and finally to his greatest love of owning and operating his trucking business for approximately 30 years.

Delma married Janet Eisnor, February 16, 1957, and their love affair continued until his final breath on August 7th. He loved his two children, Terry and Tina, and shared many adventures with family and friends over the years, which included boating, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, square dancing, camping, and many day-trips throughout the province. In his later years he loved getting out on his scooter and spending time enjoying his many favourite places along his route. He was always up for a good game of dominoes and cards, and his good attitude was often better than his luck.

To conclude, Delma was a man of adventure, and the song “On The Road Again” by Willie Nelson sums up his continuing journey… On The Road Again… To Eternity.

May his memory live on in our hearts and lives, and forever be a blessing.

Memorial service was held 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Westside United Church, Pentz. Rev. Neil McEwan officiating, with a reception for family and friends immediately following the service in the church hall. Private family burial will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital, The Canadian Lung Association, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the medical staff of South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, for the wonderful care they provided Delma during his stay.
