JOEL, David

2018-12-21

The family of David Joel, with much sadness, wish to announce his passing at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg on December 21st 2018. David passed peacefully surrounded by his family. David is survived by his wife and best friend, Jan, his children Craig and Kathryn, and his grandchildren Samantha, Michael, Eoin and Ciaran. David spent his formative years in England and graduated from the University of London with First Class Honours in Electrical Engineering in 1957. Upon graduation, he chose to emigrate to Canada for a position at Ontario Hydro, where he launched his career in Information Technology. He was joined in Canada 8 months later by Jan, his wife of 60 years. In his 40 year career, his quest to stay on the leading edge of computer technology led him to seek positions with companies in 5 different countries where he lived together with his family before finally retiring in Lunenburg together with Jan in 1996. David will be remembered for his love of golf, soccer and the game of bridge: his passionate support of London’s Arsenal Football Club began in his childhood. His love of the great outdoors inspired his decision to retire in Lunenburg, where he enjoyed his home, the company of dear friends, and the beauty that surrounds us. The family would like to thank Dr. John Jenkins, Dr. Andrew Wright and the wonderful nurses at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of David’s life will be held in the Summer of 2019. “When you are sorrowful look again in your heart and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.” Kahlil Gibran
