GUY, "Dolores" Aileen

2021-03-27

Dolores was born in Toronto, ON, only child of William and Edna (née Whiteside) Provan and passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC at the age of 92. Dolores is survived by her four children: Michael, Nadine, Thomas and John Andrew; 13 grandchildren; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Her husband of more than 35 years, David Guy (they divorced in 1985), predeceased her, as did her stepbrother David Flack of Bridgewater, NS.

Dolores had a happy childhood, primarily in the Maritime provinces where her father, Bill, was a manager for the Bank of Montreal in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. As a teenager, Dolores attended Edgehill School in Windsor, NS where she made several lifelong friendships and acted and sang in the school’s opera and drama productions. She enjoyed the local beaches, swims in the ocean with family and friends, stamp collecting, reading, and eventually Dolores entered banking herself before her marriage to David Guy in 1948.

David Guy joined the Canadian military shortly after they married and thus began an exciting phase of Dolores’s life... children, pleasure travel, new friends and work-related (military) relocations - moving more than 20 times across Canada, the Deep South of the United States, and eventually Europe, before returning to Canada in the mid-1970s.

Dolores is remembered for her truly amazing memory, her thick, dark auburn hair with a widow’s peak, her slender figure and her great sense of style, always turned out beautifully. Her dry humour was enjoyed by most, and she always spoke the truth... no sugar-coating of her opinions. She kept up to date on current affairs, subscribing to Maclean's magazine up until her last year of life.

Dolores, you are missed; your independent spirit made you unique and admired. Cremated March 30, 2021, Dolores’s ashes will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean by her son Michael, the Pacific Ocean by her son Tom, Lake Ontario by her son John Andrew and Lake Okanagan by her daughter Nadine... forever close to her family and roots.
