Ruth I. Rhuland, 1944-2020, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 7th 2020 in Shoreham Village, Chester from end stage Alzheimer’s. Ruth was born in Martin’s Point to Weston and Faith Hiltz. She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Rhuland (Archie); children, Trevor (Della) Rhuland, Trina (Grant) Oickle; grandchildren, Brooke and Taylor Rhuland; her mother, Faith (Jim) Hiltz-Litt; brother, Andrew (Joann) Hiltz. She was predeceased by her father, Weston S. Hiltz. Ruth and Walter (Archie) married March 9th 1963. They immediately moved to Marville, France RCAF base then moved to Ramstein 4 ATAF base. They travelled every western country in Europe before Walter was transferred to CFB Trenton, Ontario in 1968 where they started their family. In 1974 Walter was transferred back to Nova Scotia to CFS Mill Cove and Ruth and Walter made their final home in Martin’s River. Ruth had a great passion for all aspects of life. She loved being home with her family baking and cooking up a storm and she was excellent at both. Her gardens in the summer were amazing and picture worthy. Many passer-bys stopped and took pictures. Her love for animals came from her heart. She always felt a house was not a home without pets, many pets. She also was one of the few that had a passion for her work. Her last career was at Cook’s Real Estate as a sales consultant and she loved every minute of her 12 years there. She had many jobs, even in Marville, France she worked at the PX on base and in Ramstein she became a Dental Assistant. In Nova Scotia she was a secretary/manager for many companies: Oak Island Inn, The Ship, Imperial Oil Ltd., Suttles and Seawinds, Sears, Bridgewater Police Department (dispatcher). In 1982 Ruth went back to College, first to Acadia then Miss Murphy’s Business College (1982-86) graduating with first class honours in Secretarial Sciences. Ruth was a very spiritual person and had great faith in God. We, the family of Ruth, know she is now at peace and is in a better place. The Rhuland Family would like to thank everyone at Shoreham Village for their excellent care and kindness over the past 11 plus years, with a special thanks to Barbie, Irene and Roxy. A small family memorial will be held at a future date. Memorial donations can be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter. Condolences may be made online at www.mahonefuneral.ca
