Granted 96 years of life, Elva Amelia Conrad, First South, died February 6, 2024, at Harbour View Haven, Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born July 1, 1927, in Crouses Settlement she was one of ten children born to the late Erling Zinck and Mae (Weagle) Zinck. Elva was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In her early years Elva worked at C.B. Conrad’s Clothing Factory in East LaHave then settled into married life in 1953 with Elvin in his family home in First South where she remained until moving to Harbour View Haven in 2022.

Elva was a humble, kind-hearted soul who was always happy to welcome family and friends to her home. She enjoyed the simple things in life and on occasion a good stiff drink. Elva knew her way around the kitchen and was well known for her baked beans, brown bread and at Christmas, her infamous fruit cake.

Elva was a member of First South United Church and worked tirelessly to support the work of the church, participating and contributing to many fellowship and fund raising events.

Elva is survived by her sons, Leslie Conrad, Back Centre and Wayne Conrad, First South, grandchildren, James Conrad, Back Centre and Charlene Conrad, Bridgewater, brother-in-law, Geoffrey Zinck, First South, sister-in-law Geraldine Zinck, Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Elvin, grandson, Matthew Conrad, Zinck brothers, Robert, Walton, Herbie, Harold and sisters, Ruth Conrad, Eva Chandler, Barbara Zinck, Marguerite Baker and Doris Zinck.

The family would like to thank Lunenburg County Home Support , VON, Red Cross, and the staff of Harbour View Haven for the loving care of Elva over the past two years.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. In keeping with Elva’s wishes, there is to be no public memorial service.
