WEAVER, Rose Lillian

2024-03-20

It is with profound sadness the family of Rose Lillian Weaver, 89, of Lunenburg, announce her passing on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with her family by her side.

Born on Heckman’s Island, she was the daughter of the late Jessen and Melita (Tanner) Mosher. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Rose grew up on Little Tancook Island, and after getting her education in the one room schoolhouse, she moved to Halifax where she worked at the Moir's Chocolate Factory. She then moved to Lunenburg where she worked as a housekeeper and also at the Briny Deep Fish Plant. After she met and married Rocky, she became a stay-at-home mom and devoted her time to raising her children, which she did almost single-handedly as Rocky was at sea most of the time. She spent several years volunteering at the Centre Consolidated School library as well as helping out at the Central United Church rummage sales. She baked countless pans of squares for numerous bake sales over the years to help raise money for different causes.

She and Rocky took several trips over the years, including a family vacation to Florida, a trip to Newfoundland with friends and family, a bus tour to Nashville and a three week bus tour across Canada. They enjoyed many summers together at their camp down in Heckman's Island where family and friends loved to gather. Once they sold the camp, she and Rocky bought several campers over the years and traveled to various campgrounds across the province. But their favorite was the South Shore Bluegrass Association-Double S Park where they were members until the year after Rocky passed.

Rose and Rocky lived in Garden Lots for about 40 years until they sold their house and moved into Lunenburg. After Rocky's passing, Rose contented herself with a peaceful existence. She had a great love for country music and had wonderful friends who would let her tag along to enjoy many music jams and variety shows. She loved warm sunny weather and spent most of her days sitting on her porch enjoying the birds and watching her neighbors walking their dogs past her house, always giving her a wave. She had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed growing flowers. She always looked forward to late spring and being able to plant impatiens in pots and marigolds in her little side garden. Although as much as she loved to watch the deer that frequently showed up in her yard at night, she wasn't too pleased with them when they lopped the tops off her flowers. But most of all, Rose enjoyed visits from friends and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Rose was always in great spirits and very seldom complained. Her mind stayed as sharp as ever, but in the end her body failed her. When the time came, she went quickly, and her family is thankful for that.

Rose is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Michael) Tanner, Garden Lots; Cindy (Richard Brake) Weaver, Garden Lots; son, Christopher (Denise) Weaver, Timberlea; grandchildren, Ryan, Leah, Grant, Sarah; sister-in-law, Iris Mosher, Blandford as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Rose was predeceased by her husband Rockwell, two children, Blaine and Melanie in infancy; brothers, Basil, Aubrey, Wilbert, Cecil, Paul; sisters, Myrtle and Grace.

The family would like to thank George and Charlotte Dewling for being mom's closest friends. Neighbours Heather and Oran Hyson and Lezlee-Ann and Jamie Keays for always being there to help mom when she needed it. Gladys Collicut for coming to her home weekly to style her hair and a special thank you to Krista Knickle, LPN for taking such good care of our mom over the years.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. A funeral service was held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. from Central United Church, Lunenburg. Rev. Daniel MacDonald officiated. Interment followed in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks.

Donations to Central United Church, Lunenburg or Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery would be appreciated by the family. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
