The Western Riptide under-9 girls (white) hosted the Metro West Force Northern Lights team at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre for the International Ice Hockey Federation's Global Girls Game Feb. 17. It was one of 12 games held throughout Canada for the event that began in 2015 to help unite all girls who play hockey on the planet. Close to 40 countries participated in the event this year. On hand for the official face-off, from left to right, was Riptide alumni Ceilidh Hayes; Municipality of the District of Lunenburg Mayor Carol Bolivar-Getson; Erica Porter, high performance coach for Hockey Nova Scotia; Town of Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell; and Lunenburg MLA Susan Corkum-Greek, along with the respective captains for both teams..
