Unsightly property leads to eviction notice

An eviction notice was to be sent to a lessee that has a mobile home on municipal property.

The municipality owns two lots on Wolfe Street in Liverpool. Mobile homes on the lots are privately owned and lease agreements are in place.

Several complaints have been recorded about a mobile home owned by Traci and Albert Young at 32 Wolfe Street, who have leased the property from RQM since 2009. It was recommended at the January 12 RQM council meeting that an eviction notice be issued.

Bylaw Enforcement Officer Kelly-Anne Hurley said the couple moved out of their home and gave it to their son who was responsible for repair and maintenance. Although this was promised, nothing was ever done.

A public complaint was first made in May 2019 to Hurley regarding dangerous/unsightly premises. A site inspection revealed a vacant unit, exterior issues and high grass.

Hurley said there was some initial compliance, but it was minimal at best. The RQM issued a formal compliance order June 9, 2020 and a directive to remedy conditions by July 31, 2020, however none of the directives were addressed to completion.

Several attempts to urge the owners to get something done have failed, according to Hurley. She recommended council terminate the lease and issue an eviction notice effective June 30, 2021. Council members agreed to this.
