The Orange Crew at SHAID

On Feb. 9, eight senior cats (mostly orange tabbies) were relinquished to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter after a lady had called us, desperate for help following her mother's sudden death.

Her mother had lived alone and all of the sudden, now there was no one local available to care for the cats, and the house was being closed up within days. She was desperate for help and had reached out to a few other rescues, with no results - while mourning the unexpected passing of her mother at the same time.

These eight senior cats were between the ages of seven and 17 years old. Upon their intake exams it was determined that the 17-year-old needed a full geriatric blood panel and all seven of the younger seniors were in dire need of dental work, but otherwise healthy and friendly (although understandably heartbroken from the loss of their beloved owner).

Males Dole, Tropicana, and Julius (orange drink brands), and females Belladonna, Cara Cara, Valencia, and Minneola (orange fruit varieties) will all need to undergo dental surgeries. T

here are rotting and broken teeth, and massive amounts of excess plaque. We won't know how severe each case is until the animals are sedated and the dental surgeon is actually in their mouths, but we do know each case will cost between $300-$1,500, likely totaling well over $6,000 for these eight sweethearts.

Dole (8 years old), Tropicana (10), Julius (7), Belladonna (8), Cara Cara (7), Valencia (10), Minneola (10), and Satsuma (17) are all available for adoption; they all get along wonderfully with each other and will make amazing companion animals!

Due to their ages, their adoption fees will not exceed $175 each, and will include all dental work needed, plus they have been spayed and neutered, tested negative for Feline Leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, treated for parasites – plus the full blood panel testing for Miss Satsuma.

If you are in a position to help the Orange Crew - no matter how little - you can send an e-transfer to info@shaidanimalshelter.com (please include 'Orange Crew' in the comments, along with your mailing address if you would like a charitable receipt), or call 902-543-4849 if you'd like to donate by credit card.

Cheques can be mailed to 950 Mullock Rd, Whynotts Settlement, NS B4V 5T9. Again, no amount is too small; our goal is to get these furbabies fixed up so they can start their search for their new forever homes. Thank you.
