The owner of Purdy Girl II was doing overhaul work in the hull of the boat just before the fire started around the lunch-hour. Fire engulfed the vessel minutes after an engine backfire, said Tony Allen, deputy chief of Pleasantville's volunteer fire department. No one was hurt and fire is classified as accidental in nature.

Volunteer firefighters from LaHave and Conquerall Bank helped put the flames out.
